Do you have a citation that proves that cancelled preorders make a huge difference? Yes or no? You have not provided any empirical evidence, so why make such a faith-based claim?

The rest of your comment reeks of ignorance. Halo 3 and Reach, for instance, sold 3.3 million physical copies in the US alone. 1.4-1.5 is less than half of that. The digital rate has to be unrealistically astronomical in order to compensate for such a gap.

Halo 4 sold 3.8 million world wide first week. Halo 5 sales according to OP is first month DEBUT which is only 4 days. So 3 more days can easily put it above 2 million in U.S. alone with UK and the rest of the world and of course digitial sales it will probably meet those sales. That and the fact Halo 4 came out when 360 had a bigger user base. The series is doing fine. COD had a decline from MW3 and onwards ,but not one will ever ever call it a failure. Also, I never argued percentage regaring preorders, just a fact that everyone who preorders not going to buy it and Microsoft never released first week sales for Halo title like you claimed so you're wrong yet again.

Firstly, Halo is one of the most front loaded brands ever - as in a massive chunk of its sales occur within the first 24 hours.

Secondly, Halo 5 is "the biggest Halo launch" in terms of one metric: revenue. Do you know what that means? That does not mean profit, that means the total amount of money coming in but it includes the cost of shipping, the cost of development, the cost of marketing, all built right into the sale of one full MSRP point of one copy for Halo.

Things get even more muddled up by the fact that they've decided to be very vague in how they're including hardware and software in this revenue stream. So where Halo 3 might have made 350million on just the game and its limited editions alone, Halo 5 can't be compared because for all the information that we do know, Microsoft at the very least is including xbox one LE console sales. That's approximately 8x the value of a standalone game sale. They could be including - micro transactions, controllers, headsets, anything with the Halo name on it, games given away for free from other various bundles... We simply do not know the extent and its apparent that MS wants it that way. Weve been hearing rumors that this is the lowest selling mainline entry since it launched and all evidence thus far is pointing toward this.

Why can you not grasp that? The franchise is declining and MS has relied on it for too long. It happens unless your name is Mario. That's just how it goes.
