I really like both games. Both games I first played, because my uncle owned them. And I eventually bought both games.

FFX had a great story, and first playthrough I played until the end in order to finish the story. The story could really grip me, and I felt like I was part of the universe. Great battle system, turn based and as long as you didn't force level yourself some battles could be challenging the first time. However once your summons got strong enough it was no contest. Speaking of summons, I liked them all and they were quite powerful. You can customize their stats and abilities and generally destroy everything. Item customization was also fun to mess around with, even for cosmetic reasons.

Characters are all nice, did not dislike any of them. Having 7 characters made the story unique enough and the combat often differentiated. After I beat the game, I have created many other games. Definitely spent over 500 hours in this game, going through the story over and over doing all the sidequests. Sometimes purposefully making my characters go a bad route in the sphere grid to create more challenge. FFX also had some great philisophical points made in the game. And had meaningful deaths and plot twists.

FFXII had a great setting. The Medieval type, and the judges were really cool. I went through the first 5 hours of the game 3 or 4 times in a row unfortunately, due to only playing it when i visited my uncle at the time. When I finally bought the game, the beginning was really annoying. Finally getting past that, the game hooked me for nights on end. I liked the shops and customization of my characters. I really liked the strategy involved for some of the fights I had to do, even going so far as keeping guest characters for grinding and sidequests.

Six characters is a bit small for my tastes, but the guests were really cool. Exploration was really nice, I still remember randomly exploring a cave and then all of a sudden a boss fight. Had no knowledge of how to beat him, and he wrecked me for awhile. Then I adapted and eventually brought him down, and got myself a brand new summon. Summons were kind of lackluster but still fun to use. Game was long enough for one playthrough at 80 hours, though I would be annoyed to start a new game due to the first 5 hours.

I put FFX just ahead of it.
