So, instead of paid mods, Steam sells now paid items. My feel is that this is even worse than the mods, as the items can much more easely rack up to big sums if you're not counting and taking care of what you buy.
Oh, and Unreal Mario Kart just proves to me that better graphics not always provide, well, better graphics. It looks gorgeous, but very bland at the same time.
