Well, a PS4 or Xbox One IS more powerful than most PCs, just not most gaming PCs.

You answered your own question here. The Xbox 360 was $400 in 2005. That's equal to $477 in 2013 money. The 360 was more expensive when it launched than the PS4 and nearly as much as the Xbox One with the Kinect. If gamers were okay with spending $500 on a new console then fine, but they really aren't.
