unfortunate?
how do you expect China to feed and care for their people if the populationi keeps growing? as it is they can't grow enough food in their country to sustain them, they're already importing agriculture
Its a sad sounding policy but it was extremely necessary on an Earth with a world population that is well beyond anything that this planet was likely capable to sustain
think for a moment- the United States for example has 350 million people in roughly the same geographic amount of space as China has 1.5 BILLION. if you can't see why this is becoming an increasingly big problem then I don't know what to say
in general the more people there are in a smaller place (respective to population vs land) the harder the standard of living is on the average person. when you bear in mind that China already does a poor job in providing for their poor and that there are already many starving in the country it creates a nightmare situation for a few decades from now if their population continues to grow
it's in line with how China artificially deflates their currency to bolster their economy. sure, in the short term it makes them more favorable to trade with BUT in the long term its detrimental to their economy because of the widespread knowledge about that and the lack of faith of any depth in their market (hint: look at the recent stock plummet)
similarly, boosting their population even more now will likely temporarily help their economy but long term it will just weaken it like a rubber band stretched too far
