Classic Sonic's always been overrated but sonic 2 and 3 were still good for their time. Honestly, despite it's flaws I thought that lost world was better than all the classic sonics generations was good too. Sonic adventure 1 and 2 were terrible though.
With so many vastly diffrent sonic games they'll never please everyone.
