This is the least inspiring lineup since 2004.
The Republican side has been an absolute clownshow. You have all these sitting senators and governors with actual experience and records to judge them on, and they're being shown up by the likes of Ben Carson and goddamn Donald Trump. Trump in particular makes no sense to me at all--post-Tea Party, the Republicans have taken a slash-and-burn approach to purifying their own ranks, but are rallying around someone who flipflops on supporting the different parties whenever it suits him. He was literally a registered Democrat just last election cycle and has openly bragged about giving money to Democrats. Not to mention how he's clearly just making shit up as he goes along and has no clue what he's talking about half the time (even by politician standards...).
The Democratic side, meanwhile, was and always has been set up to be a coronation for Hilary Clinton. Biden may have been the only one with a shot at beating her, but I never expected to him to run while he was still in mourning over the death of his son. Bernie Sanders, meanwhile, has no chance, showing little appeal or name recognition outside of the hard left. It would've been nice to have a serious ideological debate on the Dem's side, but he's simply not up to competing against the female equivalent of Tywin Lannister.
At this point, it's Hilary's race to lose. The asshattery on the Republican side is not going to play well with the general electorate--Romney wasn't anywhere near as bad as the Republican roster we have now and it still hurt back him in 2012.
I myself likely won't vote. I lean Democrat and live in New York, so it's pretty much pointless.
