1.1 Purchase Pcs on same performance as consoles are more expensive. You cant really use your tv as a screen and need an monitor as well. = Console +1 |
Go second hand then, you can build a machine console equivalent cheaper.
If I didn't upgrade my 5 year old PC... It would still be doing 1080P 60fps games just fine. (Which the Xbox One and Playstation 4 actually struggle with, haha)
I also have an 8+ year old PC which is perfectly capable of playing the majority of games today just fine at 720P, 30fps, could do with a GPU upgrade to prolong it's life though.
|
1.2 Games PC Games in general are cheaper as console games. You can get games on key stores often for half price compared to console games. = PC +1 |
Only half the price?
Pro Tip for PC gaming: If you can't find a discount on your games, even the latest releases, then you are doing it wrong.
| 1.3 Gaming in general
Modern consoles need subscrition models for Online gaming. You will get free games, but not everybody want those games. If you want to play online, you have to pay the same price, no matter if you like the game or not. On PC you can decide when you want to get an cheap games (steam sale). Its not forced to get those and online is free. PC +1 PCs get outdated quicker as consoles and need to be updated frequently. The Xbox 360 launched in 2005. No way any 2005 pc could handle games like GTA V or the upcoming Rise of the Tomb Raider, even on lowest settings. Console +1
|
Don't forget you get free games on PC too.
PC's USED to get outdated faster than consoles. Back then consoles used hardware that was a little more "cutting edge" compared to a high-end PC.
Fast forward to today and the consoles are stictly low-end from a hardware perspective, mid-range on their release.
A nicely equipped PC is going to go farther than they ever used too from a gaming perspective as innovation has slowed, performance increases dropped and a focus on efficiency.
Case in point: 5 year old PC can play GTA 5 better than a 2 year old PS4. And will likely be fine for this entire generation thanks to a paradigm shift to efficiency in the PC space.
| 1.4 Accessories Good quality accessories (Controller, Mouse, keyboard) have similar prices on both. Both support cheaper third party solutions. Tie
|
Disagree. The PC has MORE accessories. Don't like an Xbox or Playstation styled controller? Then don't use one. Use a Gamecube controller instead. Like a SNES controller for a 2D game? Go for it.
Want the most accurate and responsive control input method to ever exist? The Mouse and Keyboard is waiting.
The PC has this downpacked, no contest. You have the console accessories available... And then a 1000x more.
|
Conclusion: Console 3 / PC 2 Winner: Console. Console Gaming in general is cheaper as pc gaming.
|
Well. I disagree. A PC easily pays for itself and can end up cheaper if you like to own large game libraries.
Let's not forget you also have access to the largest game library on Earth as well.
NES, SNES, Commodore 64, Atari 2600, Sega Master System, Megadrive, Nintendo 64, Playstation 1, Playstation 2, Nintendo DS, Gameboy Advance, Gameboy, Wii, Gamecube... Heck. Even emulate Android and thousands of games on Steam.
There are more games on PC than any console.
|
2.2 Exclusive games Both plattform have exclusive games, but in general console exclusive have a higher quality. In the Top 100 of metacritic scores are way more console exclusive games as pc exclusives games. Also consoles exclusives game usual have better visuals, scince the budget on pc exclusive games is smaller. |
Well. Only partly true.
All console games end up on PC, it's not a matter of "if" but "when".
I.E. There are already Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 emulators being made for the PC, still years away... But, the point stands.
As for budgets... Keep in mind that the most expensive exclusives of all time are on PC.
StarWars the old republic for instance is PC exclusive, cost 250 million.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_most_expensive_video_games_to_develop
As you will see the PC dominates the charts when it comes to budgets and exclusivity.
PC always has better visuals. Always.
We aren't limited to the archaic 1080P 60fps. 1440P? 1600P? 4k? 8k? Triple 4k? 120hz? 144hz? 3D? 16 Anti-Aliasing, 16x Anisotropic Filtering?
Hows about 6x 4k projectors? Think a console can compete with the likes of that?
Star Citizen looks amazing. It's not even finished yet. And they keep improving the visual fidelity.

3.1 Online PC didnt use any standard online plattform. Often many different plattforms are needed (steam, uplay, origin, teamspeak, skype, battlenet and more) Consoles have 1 standard plattform, all friends in one list, on party voice chat. +1 Console
|
Only if you want too. You can use all those "programs" and consolidate things like friends list and voice chat with 3rd party solutions.
Also remember... It's free.
|
3.2 Gaming Console games were played with a controller on a couch. You can control the interface with the controller and play the games. PCs are made to be used on a desktop. You can connect them to your TV and hook up an controller, but the controls wont work was good. Its personal preference, if you like to play on an desk or on the couch, but in my opinion lying on the couch is more enjoyable. Tie (personal preference).
|
PC can use console controllers, PC does have Big-Picture Mode.
Also keep in mind... Consoles cannot do this which is "extremely" enjoyable (I have a triple display set-up):
