Dark Pirate Commando have a lifebar the size of Mars? One charged dark beam shot and a missile kills them. Also I can't understand how one calls the areas in Prime 2 generic/bland while he praises the areas of the first game (which are the definition of bland: ice, lava, ruins, mines). The Sanctuary Fortress is one of the most beautiful areas I've ever seen in a game.

Prime 3 is probably the best in the series, but even on Veteran mode it's the easiest of the 3. Hyper mode is very difficult though, especially the final boss fight with Dark Samus. I didn't feel the motion controls were overdone at all like in Skyward Sword. The lasso in particular was very gratifying to pull off.

Taking these in turn...

One dark beam shot does freeze Dark Pirate Commandos, yes, allowing for a missile to shatter them. However, the enemies continually warp around the room, so actually managing to find one of them with enough time to charge up a dark beam blast, and then being able to hit them with said blast is another matter altogether, especially before you acquire the dark visor. It's also worth noting that this is incredibly counter-intuitive (attacking dark enemies with the dark beam), so the average player is likely not going to figure this out for quite some time. Trying to kill these guys with other weapons takes an extremely long time, even with the dark visor, hence the long health bar complaint.

I believe I went over this in my original post...

"I find myself preferring the stock "fire/ice/mines" locales of Tallon IV to the more unique "desert/bog/techno city" areas of Aether, just because the level design in Echoes feels very cramped and bland in comparison to Prime's much more open and easily differentiable environments."

It's worth keeping in mind that bland does not mean non-unique. It simply means uninteresting. It's very possible to have an extremely engaging ice world, for instance, despite the fact that there have been hundreds of ice areas in games before. And, by the same token, it's very possible to have a bland techno fortress area, even if it's far less frequently done. Aether's environments are much more cramped than Tallon IV's, far less colorful, and fairly repetitive in traversing, which makes me prefer the original game's more routine environments to Echoes' more unusual ones.

but even on Veteran mode it's the easiest of the 3. Hyper mode is very difficult though, especially the final boss fight with Dark Samus.

I'd argue playing through on Veteran makes for an experience equivalent to playing through the original Prime on normal for the first time, if my friend's death count inbetween games is anything to go by. Part of the reason why Veteran seems easier is that most of us played Veteran after playing Normal, so we had a general idea of the mechanics and how to defeat most of the enemies by that point. A good bit of the challenge of Metroid games is actually figuring out how to do stuff, which makes a replay on Veteran an unfair comparison to a first time playthrough on Normal.

I suppose opinion's opinion, but I don't feel like forcing me to shove my hand back in forth in order to pump fuel gel adds much to the experience.

That's really strange as I find the first Prime to be much more cramped and claustrophobic than the second Prime which has more open areas. The third is my favorite because it has the biggest areas. And I played Prime 3 on Veteran mode for the first time, it was the easiest of the trilogy. As for the Metroid Hatcher, the one in the Valhalla is the only one that isn't optional. You can kill it by then with one shot. It's there to make you feel like a bad ass.
