Once you go big, 1440p on a monitor just isn't as immersive anymore.

Why instead? You can also connect a PC to an 1080p projector.

My Sony "Pearl" (VPL-VW50) serves me well since 2008 when I'm in the mood for console and/or PC games (or watching blu-rays) on the big screen.

I just meant instead in case you're on a limited budget. Instead of building a $500 PC, get a projector :)
Laptops have hdmi out nowadays too, and even indie games look fantastic. EG Fract OSC is 10 times more immersive on the big screen.
Plus I've been using the same 1080p Panasonic projector since 2006, still looks fantastic. None of my PCs or consoles have survived that long. (To be fair, there are 'hidden' costs, the lamps don't last that long)

Strangely enough I never played Elite Dangerous on it, despite being addicted to that for months. It's one of those mmorpg paced games, play while watching netflix end/or doing other stuff. Nor is it comfortable for Civilization, Tropico etc. ETS2 was perfect for it though. I'm waiting for the US based follow up.  (Currently playing the crew on it, average game, doesn't run great, awesome map to explore, worth $20, ignore all the micro transactions)
