Catering to? Nah, if that's the developers intention then I don't see it as a bad thing. Forcing devs to adhere to your ideology on the other hand, via pressure of any means, however, does.
If a developer doesn't want to make a game that suits your ideology, that should be up to them. It doesn't bother me when they do, it doesn't bother me when they don't. What I do get annoyed with is when a bunch of screeching hipster douches want everyone else to change their creative process to suit them, while providing absolutely nothing of their own (other than incessant screeching).
