Yeah I've only been living in Europe (Netherlands) for 3 months, but for everywhere I've seen, that was already the selling price. Microsoft is just doing this officially now, maybe for a bit of press.
Anecdotally with the stores i go to, gaming sections are probably 60% - 70% Sony products and Nintendo/Microsoft split the rest.
