I suppose it depends on how you define "fanboy." Many in this thread seem to define it as a passionate fan - nothing wrong with that.
However, I interpret the word in much more dangerous terms.
A "fanboy" is someone who defends a certain brand without logic or reason, and thus tends to make the community of video game fans much more hostile and suspicious. Fanboys also defend the honor of certain publishers, developers, and console manufacturers to the death, regardless of bad business decisions and unethical practices. This allows unscrupulous companies to get away with murder.
