I think one thing you are not considering is that many of the addons you needed are due to replacing your laptop, not a gaming console. You needed a monitor because you wanted to do PC things (things which the consoles don't do very well.) All in all you saved money because you have a PC and gaming system in one, and do not need to purchase them separately.
