| zero129 said: No it is true. Clearly you didnt have a clue what you where doing and so you found it hard and feel like the was a lot of extra stuff you needed adding "Extra" costs. Clearly you didnt do enough research but its good you at least tried (Id like some pics of your pc build) . Like you make it out to look like a Keyboard and Mouse and dvd drive and a Wifi (Something you dont need unless you want it) are expensive. You can get an OS such as Windows 7 for like €20-30, KB+Mouse for like €15-20, if you want a wifi dongle they are like €10-20 and a DVD drive can be got for like €15-30. so even at their most expensive the total comes to €100 on top of whatever the PC build is. Now already you have a system that didnt cost you much more then a PS4 or X1 and can do so much more its not even funny. Plus why its cheaper is long run costs, like others have said its a stigma thinking you need to upgread every 1 or 2 years and thats total bullshit that Console fanboys (Id imagine its ok to say this since PC elitiest is used in this very thread by the OP a number of times) like to say.. PC games have settings for a reason. So yes PC gaming is cheaper. And no PC fan says its a good idea to Build a PC to the exact specs of the PS4 or X1, but you can build one that wont cost you much more then one of them systems would cost if you wanted something cheap for now that can play all the games out now at this moment looking better then both of them systems and then if it came a thing in a year or 2 that the was something you couldnt play looking as good all you have to do is upgrade the GPU to a better one with the money you saved on games plus free online gaming and you can once again destory both consoles in terms of power. So no one told you lies, the was no hidding costs, just cos you found it hard for your first time building one doesnt mean it "IS" Hard. Clearly anything is hard the first time you do it. |
My issue is that some people mislead others to think that you can the price you pay for a console can be spent cheaper for a better performing PC. That's not true, not from the ground up anyway. Like another poster said, I was just put in a situation where I was at at a disadvantage to build something like this because I used a laptop for years.
Because of that, lowering the cost was harder as the laptop pretty much had everything I needed (a screen, an OS, keyboard, Wi-Fi receptor and other fun gizmos). Some people may not need a Wi-Fi dongle, but under my circumstance I needed one because of how my house is setup. That said, after my initial investments, I know my next upgrades won't be too expensive as I already have the core things and only need to switch a component or two if I ever feel like my gaming isn't up to par with my expectations or desires.
I 100% admit that my lack of research and foresight led me to spend more on my rig, but I'm just giving the perspective of as a person who played video games on consoles all his life who's attempting to jump on PC building. I really do find a lot of the things I've read to be misleading and that the barrier entry is hard. I really don't think that PCs are as easy to build as Lego.
About the having to buy a monitor/TV. I only have a 42 inch screen TV that would have been compatible with my PC. I don't want to use something so large to read things and do desk work when I'm not gaming (I still intend to use this for work purposes). If I wanted to play videogames or movies? Sure, maybe get a wireless keyboard and mouse and play long range, but I also want to use my PC for work purposes too and something that big is overkill for me.
