In fact I will go a step further and say NO ONE in the organisations I have workd as got into a company without someone recommending them. All without connections got dismissed early. What you have is an anecdote, not data. Even in the most extreme industries where personal connections matter the most the majority of new hires do not have them ...
Not having the required qualifications on the other hand just means that you will be disqualified automatically for the most part ...
