@ l_Emmiwinks, do you think Sony could kind of "skip" a generation? I mean, could they effectively continue supporting PS3 for the rest of the next gen (the one after this current gen), or is this not possible. I think it would be pretty amazing and a pretty good idea.

If the Cell is has as much potential as people are saying it will when its fully realized, then I think its perfectly possible for Sony to last 10 years and still be prominent on the Console scene. To skip the next generation could also be possible if the Wii sticks to the rumored 4 year life span and MS releases the next console in the next 2-3 years, since Sony would just not make a new console till those new ones are ready to have THEIR successors.

The only real issue holding the PS3 back technologically is the low RAM count.

But yeah, if they can effectively skip a generation, or to put it better, have released the PS3 a generation before its time it would reap them unfathomable benefits.

I own all three current consoles and a great gaming rig, now thats out of the way.

"Why post something like this when all it will get is PS3 owners blinded to reality replying? BOTH THE PS3 AND BLUE-RAY WILL NOT LAST 3 YEARS! TECHNOLOGY CHANGED TOO FAST!"

"is it Wii FIt that has sold as many as PS3's sold? Thats a LOL Look at the total sales of software is it just me that sees Nintendo titles hitting 10m+ and you say they arent making a difference? Another LOL!"

"Hell, with all the negative hype Sony spin, people just aren't interested cost is too high and to get the true HD experience (1080p, 7.1 surround) you will need a $1000+ system. THAT IS GOING TO DO IT IN A RECESSION! PS4 will not happen"
