I already preordered the basic edition and if the maps look promising then I will buy the pass. It's not hard. If you like the game, if you have fun with the game, then you pony up the money.

Well you are describing the problem very well.

It is not a problem.  It is a business stategy that has proven to work so companies are sticking with it.   Getting them to change is not easy.  Just like it isn't easy to get corporations and big money out of politics or how it is not easy to talk sense into private pharmaceutical companies.
