Well this is an interesting parallel to last year. Last year, Nintendo had a big opening. Hey had the exclusives, they had positivity, and several of the most hyped third party juggernauts underwhelmed. All they had to do was play their cards right and they could have had a great holiday. Unfortunately they did piss all and suffered the consequences. And this year, MS looked like it had a huge opening. Uncharted, No Man's Sky, Zelda, Star Fox, all delayed out of he year. MS was the only of the big three with a juggernaut in the fight. All they had to do, we thought, was play their cards right and bam, amazing holiday. But unlike last year where Nintendo did nothing and thus suffered, MS has done everything *but* a price cut - aggressive marketing, numerous bundles, free games, the works - and still can't catch a break. Makes me think we may have crossed a tipping point where PlayStation is just going to continue to consume MS's market share by ever greater amounts, leading to a sixth gen rerun. I could see it. Halo and Gears can't carry Xbox alone and so far the other exclusives haven't done much to grab attention. Last gen they had the third party marketing, timed exclusive DLC, and third party bundles. But Sony is quickly and systematically disassembling that stronghold. This year it was CoD and Assassin's Creed, Batman, Battlefront, and Metal Gear. The only powerful one they have left is their Bethesda relationship and you know Sony is eyeing that. So yeah, I think this is only going to get worse.
