For the same theory any sequal we haven't heard about can release next year. We just dont know. Therefore how can he say it will release next year with certainty? Its a gamble.

GT7 is semi-announced for 2016.
The game creator when asked about the game coming 2017 replied: People will never wait this much for it.
He basically said it'll come before 2017, so if its not this year, it's 2016.

Gravity Rush 2 was also semi-announced for the Vita.
I know GT6 came within 6 months, but every other GT game saw delays. Also, dont know if you have kept up, but GT6 is still getting DLC.
