Even if this game turns out to be brilliant I can't see it being a massive sales hit, especially with the toy-buying crowd, that would make licensed products a lucrative venture. IMO this game has an audience potential of 5-6 million if it manages to meet preview expectations. That's not a big enough fanbase to sustain licensed toys, stationary, costuming etc. I also always worry when companies try to force these things. Let Horizon become a great franchise naturally by focussing on the things that makes a franchise great. Putting merchandising around this franchise now before the game has been seen in more than preview form makes it look like the focus is on monetising the superficial meta-elements of the game rather than delivering a compelling core product. |
I think the testers have already told them that it is compelling enough that they have this confidence, Sony is very careful with these moves. I think this is a huge indicator of how high the quality and depth etc of the game is. This thing could be "Pokemon Big".
