Those are the advantages which obviously out-weighed the cons at the time of design. (Bandwidth, capacity.)

And you are correct, flash memory is more expensive on a per-gigabyte basis, but... You can't buy a Mechanical Hard Drive that is only 8Gb and it would be more expensive to manufacturer than flash on a per-gigabyte basis if they did.
