It's just not that simple.  I could say Super Time Force was made only for profit, in just the same way as the latest COD game.  Both are just souless profit machines.  But ths is simply not true.

It is that simple. That's business.

Super Time Force was born out of a game jam and worked on for periods of time whenever its creators had free time. I have no doubts THEY enjoy making art and don't care about the business. But MS published the game because they saw potential. In both the game and the revenue it could bring. I am sure plenty of Sony developers consider what they make as art and could not care less about the money. But if they bring a demo or idea to their boss and he shows it to his boss and its decided there is no financial incentive for pursuing that project, it won't get greenlit. I know Sony said recently a lot of their games don't make money... that's not on purpose.

I'm not sure why people get defensive over this. There's nothing wrong with being in business to make money. It's not as if any of these companies are small time local Mom and Pop shops. These are huge corporations. Microsoft made tons of their money off of shady PC elements. Last I checked, Sony makes most of their money selling insurance. It's not as if you aren't allowed to want to make money, AND also care about putting out quality games.

My favorite Sony studio used to be Zipper, before Sony closed them down. If Sony prefers to make art, why did they close Zipper? And if Sony prefers to make art, why did they meddle with the artists making SOCOM 4 and make them change it into a shitty CoD clone (according to a known former Zipper dev on GAF)? Could it be *gasp* to try and make more money?

Anyways, I am out of this thread.
