Isn't gaijin kind of an offensive term?
I know it's to talk about foreigners but I remember reading it was kinda of an insult.

Gaijin can be seen as offensive, depending on how it is said. It did seem just a way to acknowledge that someone is a foreigner. Some people would say that to me, but meant no offense by it. It could also be that Japanese prefer shortening things. Gaijin is easier to say that gaikokujin x )
