I'll never understand why foreign journalists think going to the biggest stores in downtown tokyo will make their coverage accurate. It just doesnt, and not because it makes the sales look higher, infact it's the exact opposite.
When pricecuts happen, its online sales and local electronics stores that pull in the big numbers, it's a work day for crying out loud, people arent likely to get on a train and ride the 30 min to 2 hours just to buy one in the big stores when every single mall or gaming store across japan will stock them too.
All you end up getting is a skewed account of sales from the people who nipped out of work at lunch or after work to get one on the way home, most other people would have simply bought online to be delivered to their home or local convenience store, or will pick them up from their local stores on the weekend.

It's all very well and fun t do this sort of coverage, but understand that any sales figures you get from it are going to be inaccurate as hell.
