Take a game like Xenoblade, which exclusively uses manual saves but simply returns you physically to the last fast-travel point you visited when you die, without causing you to lose any actual progress.

Ah yeah, I did like how Xeno did it. I suppose it is just the pure manual save design I'm not a big fan of. Don't make me lose hours of progress for small mistakes. x.x
