U mean the same thing they have done every generation? Nintendo has released a handheld almost every year for close to 15 years.

Releasing these revisions wasn't some last minute resort to fend off mobile, they were going to release regardless.

They were going to release them anyway but not so soon.

Also, Nintendo already outlined their plans for next gen and it includes a handheld device that won't have exclusive games.
