I don't think the article is very accurate because when something happens, it almost never is caused solely by one reason
Mobile and the switch to more casual gaming impacted the handheld market a lot. It's really obvious with the 3DS, selling a lot less than the NDS. Why buy a system when you can get a game on your phone that you already had for free? Likewise, the Vita faced the same problem and sales number dropped
