I would vehemently argue against that. Form factor is a huge reason why I own my 3DS. Like obviously the games are important, but I constantly find myself wishing I could play some console games on a portable platform. I especially had this issue with MGSV, where I couldn't get into it, but playing MGS3 on the 3DS during my breaks at work made it a much more consumable experience.

Most people don't want that sadly. :( It's a shame as I love the few high end Vita titles there are. Perfect experience on the go.
Especially in the West, handheld gaming is pretty much finished it would seem. The only viable way I see for the market to continue, is for some convergence with the home console offering for Nintendo's next system.
