Basically if you really think about it, with Wii U, what Nintendo was actually trying to do was create a portable console.

It just wasn't possible in 2012 to have a mobile chip fit into the controller that could power the graphics.

By 2016 it will be possible, arguably it already is.

So yeah I think NX will be primarily a portable console with a screen. And I think they'll have one other new idea, maybe a new type of control or form factor design that encourages people to come together and gather around the portable console. That's pretty much what Nintendo loves to do is have family/friends/kids come together.

So maybe some control play mechanic where you really want to invite someone to join you and play, and you can move it around the house or take it outside.

Then they can take that chip and release just a vanilla console with no screen/battery for really, really cheap if they want or they could vice-versa scale it up for a pricier console, that would be the other SKU which would share most of the same games.

Graphics being a moderate bump from the Wii U.

Actually Nintendo with Wii U want to have DS and in same time users to have tablet that can use for other things too.

A am pretty sure Nintendo will keep Wii U concept between NX home console and NX handheld, using NX handheld like Wii U gamepad for NX home console.
