The primary feature of the old cell phones was making phone calls. Most smartphone users use their devices only for the fraction of time to make phone calls, the PDA functions and the internet access are much more important to them. The telephone function is "just another app".

And 100% of smartphone users would not own their smartphones if they didn't make phone calls. 99% of smartphone use is communitation through calls, texts, IMs, or emails. The telephone function is absolutely not "just another app." It's the primary reason they buy the phones. Everything else will always be secondary or tertiary.
