Nintendo:
Mario has appeared in 230!!! games in a time span of 35 years.
Donkey Kong has had 37 games in the same timespan. [More than 1game/year]
Zelda has had 38 releases in 28 years. [More than 1game/year]
Pokemon has released 25 main series games and another 40 spin-off games (so totally 65! Pokemon games) in 19 years. [More than 3games/year!!!!! - Over 1 main game/year]
Microsoft:
Halo 5 is the 12th installment in the franchize (including spin-offs) in 14 years. [0.86 games/year - 0.36 main games/year]
Forza has 6 Motorsport and 2 Horizon games (so 8 games in total) in 10 years. [0.8 games/year]
Multiplatform Games:
Sonic has had 88! games released in 24 years. [Over 3 games/year]
Call of Duty has released 18 main series games (and another 20 released for other consoles/handhelds) in 22 years!!! [Over 1 game/year - 0.82 main games/year]
Assassin's creed will release it's 22nd installment this fall (9 of which are main series) in just 9 years!!! [Over 1 game/year - 1 main game/year exactly]
The GTA series has 15 games (5 main series) in 17 years. [0.88 games/year - 0.29 main games/year]
Now lets examine the God of War franchize:
The main trilogy (Parts 1 and 2 released for PS2 and Part 3 for PS3),1 prequel for the PS3, 2 PSP spin-offs, 1 more (Java ME) spin-off and finally 5 collections/remasters (3 collections for PS3, 1 for PSV and the GoW3 remaster for PS4). Thats 12 GoW games in total (only 6 of which, though are original installments) released in 20 years. [0.6 games/year - 0.3 original games/year]
So judging by the industry's most successful franchizes if anything God of War needs more games :P
P.S. Kratos is one of sony's most iconic characters, GoW games sell well and reveiew well... why the hell would they not want to continue developing them.
