It's sad, because I think it stifles creativity.  Devs may get more concerned about the backlash of not catering to mass appeal (or publishers may force it upon them).  I think we've become hugely focused on striking gold on another GTA or CoD, or BF etc...  Not every game has a 100+ million dollar budget...and sometimes it's more than profitable to just sell ~2 million copies.  Though, I realize every dev studio wants to bank hard.  Just doesn't always make sense given the IP you're intending on creating.

People need to relax...there are thousands of games every year.  Let devs build their vision, play what you want, ignore the rest.  Respect the devs right to creative freedom.

PS.  And no apologies needed.

Exactly, I must say it's always a pleasant experience when I come across rational minded individuals on sites like this, sadly it's far too seldom an experience.

You sum it up best, 'play what you want, ignore the rest'. If only everyone could just adhere to that.

I think the industry is served best with this mentality, the odds of seeing way way more interesting IP, gameplay etc...  rise dramatically.
