While I find it a shame that Sega ended as it did, they screwed themselves so hard along the way that it was innevitable. They couldn't keep themselves together managementwise, and really did more to capatalize on the gaps in the video game industry that Nintendo wasn't filling more than anything else. That's why they got crushed so handily by Sony.
That said, in terms of hardware, there is no one I'd like to see come back, and the only two companies I'd consider for that (Sega and SNK) are still alive and kicking in the software arena, even if they aren't doing as well as the glory days.
