VR was always going to be "niche" as it isn't what is driving the sales of the PS4, it's just an accessory. I think Sony should market PSVR as a premium device for €400 or more. Really showcase it as a luxury item and creating a demand for people who want 'cutting edge' technology and somewhat exclusiveness.
If the price was set at say €200, the same amount of people would be willing to buy it(just my guess, but I think the people who are willing to pay 200 are willing to pay 400 and that there aren't too many people willing to pay 200 but not 400 for PSVR) basically cutting any real revenue Sony could make, and making the device itself look a 'cheap' relatively speaking.
