I do not think, realistically, that there is any indication whatsoever that "most gamers prefer PC over consoles" today. Any more than there is any real evidence of "most gamers prefer mobile games over handhelds or consoles".

It's skewed data, because quite frankly, MOST people these days, in "developed"/"first world" countries, have computers. And MOST people have cell phones, or even smartphones. A lot of those people are not "gamers", or consider themselves "gamers", yet many of them might at some point buy some kind of little game in an app store or wherever else, and play it on their computer or mobile device.

That is a symptom of popular mediums that people generally use for OTHER things than gaming, happening to have games available on them.

For GAMERS, while yes, there are a solid portion (especially now) who seem to "prefer" PC gaming (thanks mostly to the fact that, especially because of Steam, they can get ports of console games ON PC now, and play them WITH console controllers....making "PC gaming" kind of ironic), it's not a majority by any measure. Just look at the sales of PS4, or for that matter, the continuing sales of the 3DS.

We are not in any actual danger at this point in time, of consoles or handhelds going anywhere, or being "defeated" by PC or mobile gaming. Why? That's easy. Because there are millions of gamers, like myself and most of the others on these boards, who are going to prefer playing games on dedicated gaming machines, either on the go, or at home, on their couch, playing on a big screen TV.
