unfortunately it seems (from my doubtlessly ill-informed perspective) the ultra-conservative plague infected islam in the form of wahhabi/salafi movements and gained lots of power through taking over mecca/medina and by acquiring huuuge amounts of funds through petro-dollars - this made it easy to abuse the religion for medieval-like agendas like the one these shit-stains on humanity were proposing at that conference
that said ofcourse pretty much all major and minor religions can be (and were/are) interpreted in a way to fit a male superiority ideology and strifes towards gender equality were mostly being made in industrialized countries, which could indicate they were supported more by economic needs (for the female workforce) than by humanistic ideals
