When i was about 3 years on this site i realised i was a pretty unknown poster even though i was here for so long and had posted quite a bit. I had like 10 - 15 friends on here (majority of which i had sent the request), didn't really interact with much people, didnt get much friend requests and nobody really bothered with me either.
So i decided to put an open invite in my sig and ask people to add me.
Ever since then I've managed to get over a 100 friends and i probably only sent out a handfull of friend requests.
This really didnt have anything to do with getting my friend count up, but more to do with letting people on the site know that im here, im friendly, im a shinobi and dont be afraid to chat to me and make friends :)
Since then ive made quite a few friends on here who i interact with relatively often, all because of a friendly little ninja sig :D
