While your statement is not incorrect, it is not completely right either. First, even among first world countries, the cost of living may vary.
Second, Poland has better stats (GDP/per capita, HDI,Gini,) than Brazil. And while we are at that, Brazil, even in its current state, has better stats than your average third world country.
I actually think it is possible to put Poland as first world country, even if less developed than other europeans, canada and USA.
