| ChronotriggerJM said: LOL man this thread is so full of Win :D Lesse. 1.) Motion control was definitely thought out by Nintendo, but Sony's add on seems almost entirely different, and they serve almost entirely different uses. But sure, we'll go with your idea and say they were inspired by Nintendo. 2.) PSP welcomes you to the world of home buttons, in fact, it was even called "home" button on the PSP. Hitting this button while watching a movie or playing music, viewing pictures, on the internet, etc etc took you directly to the XMB, and hitting it while in game gave you the option to quit to the XMB. Sorry PSP innovation baby ;) 3.) Right, because online is an idea that had to be stolen /rolleyes. Hey how about this, if I'm older than you are, I'm going to go out on a limb and say you ripped off my idea of breathing. How dare you. Besides, think of all the companies that could benefit from an online store, does Sony ring a bell? Movies, music, games? 4.) Controller, Did you ever think that they did it because it ummm I dunno, worked? As far as I know Sony had 2 shoulder buttons before Nintendo ever did, they had the second analog stick before Nintendo ever did, they certainly had the home button before they did. I mean seriously, are we just going to assume that Nintendo and Microsoft ripped of Sony by including a second set of shoulder buttons? No, thats silly and ridiculous. 5.) Why god are you bringing the hardware into this? Nintendo used existing technology, Microsoft... used existing technology. At least the Cell is different -_-; And if they're under copyright infringement, so is IMB and Toshiba. Soooo while were at making ridiculous claims lets throw a few of these in yah? Sony popularized DVD media for games, therefore Nintendo and Microsoft must be ripping off. Sony Popularized the use of Memory Cards, therefor, Nintendo, and Sega directly ripped off. Sony's playstation 2 I believe was the first console to encourage movie playback on a video game system, making it an "entertainment system". Microsoft ripped off obviously. As mentioned earlier, the popularization of a second analog stick, the built in rumble , and the addition of a home button I'm gonna have to throw Sony some bones here. All in all, I don't care if they made or didn't make some of the technology out there, they are most certainly innovators for most electronic applications on the market of today, and if they took crappy ideas, and made them better, are we really arguing the innovation? N64's rumble pack sucked, Sony's d-pads are almost universally recognized as the best in the industry, and they did popularize so many things. |
Ok first and foremost I will try not to be bias and fanboyish if that is even a word in my response. Unlike yourself I do not really have a preference for a console and the point of this thread was not to exhibit negitive connotations to Sony but to use them as an example. (please refer to the two threads I posted in my inital posting)
The PSP "home" button serves a simular but different purpose to that of the 360. The 360 does allow you to navigate back to the main menu like the PSP but also incorporates all the XBL functionality into it. Agreed, the PSP did have a home button first and again, I will pass Sony on some credit for this.
Sony popularized DVD for games. DVD is a format sir and does not promote any innovation whatsoever.
Analog stick and rumble was copied no matter if it was built in or dual it was still a copy from Nintendo. I am not sure what you are getting at.
