The funny thing is Nintendo wanted to compete with this, so they contracted Sony to make them a CD device for there console. When Nintendo backed out of the deal, Sony was pissed, and already had designed most of the system, so they finished it on there own and called it a PlayStation.

The only reason Sony is in this market is because Nintendo backed out of a deal. Funny how things go in life.
