I don't think it's wise to conclude that Sony stole CELL technology based simply on a patent infringement lawsuit. A lot of companies hold obscure patents that outline very vague technologies, processes, or concepts, and never actual make a physical product with that patent. When a larger company develops a technology that sounds like it could fall under their vague patent, they sue that company and receive a small "go away" settlement so that the lawsuit doesn't drag out in court.
