This will be huge among kindergarteners with mobile phones. I don't know how big of a percentage of children that is, kids here still prefer to chase a football instead of a virtual pet. But I guess in Japan there's more of a market for it.

You must have missed the AR part of it. As you traverse the real world, you can 'encounter' pokemon in the game through AR.

As far as smartphone games go, this may be the one that gets kids outside more than any other Android/iOS game.

Ask yourself this: If you ran advertising for Nintendo, and you got a chance to have an ad on the Super Bowl or World Cup final, what could you put your money on? A WiiU/3DS game or this?

Pokemon is globally very popular.

Sure, kids are very active when it comes to traversing the real world. Parents take them everywhere, at best they walk to school or to practice. It's going to be interesting to see 9 year olds taking buses to the city to find a pokemon in a supermarket.

And I would not advertise Nintendo in either event, as those are more aimed at adults. Advertising Pokemon in the NFL would be like flushing money down the toilet. When have you seen a toy commercial during Champions League? It's more of a beer, car, banking (adult) market.
