Yeah, his son is one of the biggest characters in the MGS series. But his father doesn't have the same role (other than his occupation), while for example Naked Snake/Big Boss has the same role as Solid Snake.
Peace Walker is a game I also intend on playing as I've heard a lot of good tings about it, and it's the only one I haven't played in the mainline MGS series. I got the HD collection for PS3 when it was on sale on PSN a while ago. It tends to go on sale every now and then, so you could look out for that if you haven't gotten it already.

As for the True Ending, it's Mission 46. I'm not sure what the conditions for unlocking it are, as you can do it without doing Mission 45 first, and I didn't do most of the side-ops. But I think listening to certain cassette tapes is one condition. Those tapes will add missing pieces to the story, so it's always good to listen to those, which I'm sure you are doing.
The only MGS game I know of that had optional endings was MGS1, depending on a choice you make at some point in the game. But this is just an extra scene, so you get both endings.

Yeah I plan on checking out your review when you're done with the game. I also planned on making a review, but I'll see if yours will be similar to what I plan on writing up, in which case discussing it in there would probably suffice.

Yeah I'll likely go that route since it'll force be to look at the other games afterwards.

I've listened to every single cassette tape, even the music, so I hope it isn't much more than that. But yeesh! Mission 46!? I'm only on like Mission 14... (the second Africa mission) Again, the gameplay is solid for the most part, but this game is seriously dragging.

I look forward to our discussion. I'm actually writing all of my thoughts here so I have references for my review, so it will likely be a more organized version of stuff that's happened here.
