Yikes. Good thing you were able to fix it, and knew that there were other scenes that were supposed to trigger. I could see some people getting stcuk because of this. Yeah, side ops becomming neccesary is strange. At least in SMT IV, you knew you were supposed to do them during the neutral ending. Here I don't think they give you any indication. Even if they want to surprise you with an unexpected event/encounter, they can still make that happen during a core mission. It's not like I expect much to happen in those anyway, usually. I actually found the scene of DD trying to jump up on the helicopter and failing more interesting than most of what had happened before it, since escaping the hospital. But you're getting into a more interesting part of the story now at least. Can't say the pacing or the amount of story you'll get will change though. Quiet will add some scenes. And there's one (won't be a cutscene though) you can see by visiting her cell, that will explain more about her abilities. As for Emmerick, he's made an impact on the history of the series. He was also in Peace Walker, which takes place between MGS 3 and MGS 5. But he might not be the person you're thinking of. |
Yeah, when talking to my friend about it, he told me he was the guy's father, so that explains the resemblance. I definitely plan on playing Peace Walker though sometime after I beat this game, so I wouldn't be concerned about it discouraging me from playing more in the series. I feel like that game will be everything I was hoping this game would be, only with the things I miss like more linear missions, more arcadey Stealth, and non-regenerating health making the difficulty a joke. My opinions of The Phantom Pain so far are as mixed as my opinions of SMT IV, and I ended up liking that game regardless of its flaws. Although I don't think I'll like this game as much as that one, the difference is small.
I've read that there's a side op that allows you to customize weapons. Aside from that one, I didn't plan on doing many more, though learning how necessary the side ops truly are makes me reevaluate doing that.
Is the true ending something that I have to do something specific for, or is it just kind of a "wait a bit after the end credits" kind of thing. As you may have realized, I'm really not a fan of the whole "multiple endings" thing.
I do plan on writing a review/critique of it, though, so I hope you'll look forward to that.
