I remember my PS1. The poor thing. It lived a good life from about '97 to '03. At least I think it was '97. I was still fairly young then, so it's hard to say when exactly the PS1 entered the home. All I know is that I played tons of Crash, Spyro, Final Fantasy, Legend of Dragoon, Mega Man, and so many others. It was my main system for so long, and I still have the original memory card that came with the system in working order, although it has basically no use since I have a PS3 that does the whole virtual memory card business.

Then disaster struck. And by disaster, I mean my mom ended up babysitting her friend's kids, and they were assholes. They dropped macaroni in the PS1 at one point, dropped a penny inside the system, etc.. Amazingly, the system held out until one fateful day, I went to remove a disc and out came the spinny disc holder whatever with it. Ball bearings went absolutely everywhere. I was able to somewhat salvage the situation and keep it together for another few weeks, but then I was careless one day, accidentally tore the center piece off again, and I couldn't find enough of the bearings to pull anything off.

I was still only around 10 or so when it broke, so I wasn't exactly a fountain of technical knowledge. As such, today I would have just bought what I needed and fixed it but back then I tried relying on my parents and they just tossed it.

At least they ended up buying me a PS2 to replace it, so, I mean, I upgraded pretty nicely.
