Open-world games used to be special because they were so uncommon, and now we have a glut of them in AAA gaming.
Now it seems like another iteration of the number wars (i.e. the bit wars, the resolution wars, the fps wars) where we choose to evaluate a games quality by some arbitrary number.
And here I was hoping that after Soulsborne and The Last of Us (and of course The Legend of Zelda, though that's not particularly recent), we would see a shift to semi-linear as the dominant style, which I vastly prefer.

The Last of Us was semi linear? its pure linear unlike the souls games who are almost open world.
