The original Guild War games status as MMOs was a point of contention for many players. Most MMO players would tell you that calling Guild Wars an MMO was a stretch. The cynical ones will call it a joke. The thing with Guild Wars is that most areas were instances exclusive to your party, so the number of players was determined by your party size, which, most of the time, was limited to 8. Except for the towns. Those were glorified hubs for players to chat and make parties. Many players saw it as a Diablo style ORPG because of this restriction.
