Has the Vita gotten a single first party exclusive title since its second year? I don't think it has, but somebody feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
The fact is, the PS4 killed the Vita. It isn't as if the PS4 was the only factor, but it was the final one that solidified Sony's choice to abandon the handheld. When the PS4 started selling like rapid fire and showed no signs of stopping, suddenly Sony didn't seem to care as much about trying to convince people that first party content was still coming for the the handheld they didn't want to try on anymore. Why try with the Vita when the PS4 is raking in millions on hype alone? And thus the Vita entered rapid decline.
That logic is still king because the PS4 is still selling stupidly well, and now the Vita is old enough that Sony doesn't really want to try with it. I mean, let's face it. We're pushing on towards the end of the road for the current generation of handhelds. Even if the Vita is still likely able to match whatever Nintendo brings into next generation on a hardware level, nobody will care because the Vita will be old news.
If you want contributing factors that killed the Vita, I'd say little to no worthwhile advertising, the memory card situation, and Sony not seeming to understand what a price cut is are the major contributing factors outside of the PS4's overwhelming success.
Sony could probably push a ton of Vita's if they issued an official price cut on both the system and memory cards. All of it is old enough at this point that prices should be able to sink reasonably far. I don't mean some piddly $20 price drop on the system and a 10% drop on memory cards either. I'm thinking more like $60 off of the regular Vita $199.99 MSRP, and a solid 40% drop on memory card prices. Unfortunately, Sony only seems willing to drop the price of Vita related goods when the word "clearance" is involved.
