Didn't really like the previous game so I never played the multiplayer. It can be a good thing to improve the quality of the campaign (which is a necessity IMO).
But a good multiplayer could be cool too. I did the TLOU SP only once at release, but am still spending hours on the great multiplayer. It can be a good additional value for the players if done correctly.
